WE COLLECT
NOTHING.
Seriously. No analytics, no trackers, no telemetry, no ad SDKs, no fingerprinting. Mizuki is an open-source player shell — what you watch, search, and save stays on your device unless you choose to sync an account.
LAST UPDATED: JULY 2026
NO TRACKING
No analytics, no crash telemetry, no behavior profiling. The app doesn't phone home with usage data.
NO HOSTED CONTENT
Streams come from third-party extension sources, not us. We never see what you watch.
LOCAL-FIRST
Watch history, settings, downloads, and tokens live on your device. Encrypted at rest where applicable.
OPEN SOURCE
Audit the code yourself. If we ever lied about this, the world would know in a heartbeat.
THE SHORT VERSION
WHAT WE DO & DON'T HAVE.
WHAT WE DO NOT COLLECT
- No device identifiers or advertising IDs
- No IP address logging on our servers
- No analytics or event tracking (no Vercel Analytics, no GA, no Umami on the app)
- No crash reporting / telemetry SDKs
- No record of what you search for or watch
- No access to your contacts, files, or photos
- No third-party ad SDKs (there are no ads)
- No selling or sharing data with anyone, ever
WHAT WE OPTIONALLY STORE
- Your username & profile photo (if you make an account)
- Your watchlist, continue-watching, and progress (to sync across devices)
- Your app settings & equipped shop cosmetics
- Comments & chat messages you publicly post
- MAL / AniList tokens (only if you link them, stored encrypted on-device + server-side for sync)
- Your Discord token (optional, encrypted on-device only, never sent to our servers)
ANONYMOUS USE IS FULLY SUPPORTED — NO ACCOUNT REQUIRED.
SECTION 01
THE NON-COLLECTION PROMISE
Mizuki does not collect personal data, analytics, or telemetry from the app. We do not embed analytics SDKs, advertising SDKs, or crash reporters in the app binaries. The app makes network requests only to: (a) the third-party extension sources you enable, (b) our optional BFF for account sync if you log in, and (c) MAL/AniList/Discord if you choose to connect those integrations.
SECTION 02
NO HOSTED STREAMING CONTENT
We do not host, store, proxy, or transcode any video, audio, subtitle, or image content. Streaming is performed by extensions that talk to third-party public sources, in the same model used by Aniyomi, Mihon, Tachiyomi, and similar open-source readers. What you watch is between you, the source site, and your ISP. We never see it.
SECTION 03
ACCOUNT DATA (OPTIONAL)
If you create a Mizuki account, we store the minimum needed to sync your experience: a username, optional profile photo, your watchlist, continue-watching rows, episode progress, your settings, your equipped cosmetics, and your public comments/chat messages. We do not store payment data (there is none — the app is free), and we never sell, rent, or share your data with third parties.
SECTION 04
INTEGRATIONS YOU CONNECT
If you link MyAnimeList, AniList, or Discord, the relevant tokens are stored so the app can talk to those services on your behalf. Discord tokens are encrypted on-device only and never reach our servers. MAL/AniList tokens may be mirrored server-side so sync works across devices — you can revoke them at any time from Settings or from the provider's own dashboard.
SECTION 05
LOCAL DATA
Watch history, search history, downloads, cached images, and settings are stored on your device. On Android and desktop these live in the app's private storage. You can wipe all local data from Settings → Storage, or by uninstalling the app.
SECTION 06
COOKIES & WEB ANALYTICS
The marketing site (anisurge.lol) uses lightweight, privacy-respecting analytics (Umami) to count anonymous page views. No cookies are set by the app itself. No cross-site tracking. The app makes zero analytics calls.
SECTION 07
CHILDREN'S PRIVACY
Mizuki is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect any data from children. Because we don't collect personal data in the first place, this is straightforward to honor.
SECTION 08
YOUR RIGHTS
You can: view your data (Settings → Account), export it (request via GitHub issues or email), edit your username/profile photo (PATCH /v1/me), delete comments you wrote, and delete your account on request. Deleting your account removes your server-side row and all associated data.
SECTION 09
DATA RETENTION
Local data is retained until you uninstall the app or wipe it from Settings. Account data is retained until you delete your account. We do not keep backups of deleted accounts beyond standard database backup rotation.
SECTION 10
OPEN SOURCE & AUDITABILITY
Every claim in this policy is verifiable. The app source, the BFF source, and the site source are all public on GitHub. If you don't trust us, run it yourself — see the section below.
SECTION 11
CHANGES TO THIS POLICY
If we ever start collecting something new, we will update this page, bump the 'last updated' date, and call it out in the changelog. We will never silently add tracking.
TAKE CONTROL
YOUR DATA, YOUR CALL.
STAY ANONYMOUS
Use Mizuki without ever logging in. Watch history, downloads, and settings stay local-only.
WIPE LOCAL DATA
Settings → Storage → Clear cache / Clear history. Or just uninstall — nothing survives on your device.
SELF-HOST EVERYTHING
Run the app, the BFF, and the site yourself. Your data never touches a server you don't own.
If anything in this policy worries you, the source is public — audit it, fork it, or skip the account entirely and use Mizuki anonymously. That's the whole point of being open source.
